A night at Le Gallo Rosa

What a night. A friend and I had arranged to meet each other at Ramsi’s on Bardstown Road, and while standing out front, I decided to move it on over to Le Gallo Rosa. What a great decision.

It was the night before they opened their expansion into the front rooms, and Joe took care of us, as he does everyone. The conversation with Angela flowed before the wine could start, and was better than the wine. Was it better than the food? Answering that question might hurt someone’s feelings, so I’ll leave that as rhetorical.

Angela hadn’t had scallops since she was a kid, nor calamari. So in true ‘Paul’ fashion, I pushed her to try them. Not many better places to try them – Scallops on a bed of figs sprinkled with prosciutto. Amazing! The portions are so huge, we decided to share a main entrée – chicken breast stuffed with a cherry cream sauce. Again, crazy good. Nothing more can be said.

The best of the night, as far as food goes, was the cannoli. She makes the shells, need I say more? Srsly? After desert, we took a quick tour of the renovations, and I can’t wait to go back.

Batter Blaster: Pancakes come to the 2000′s

Product Development is one of the greatest disciplines of the modern world, for a lot of reasons, but none as great as the reason it has brought us the Batter Blaster. Thank you world.

The thought of dispensing pancake batter from an aerosol can was a leap that deserves mad props and much love. The truly brilliant part, was they realized some common objections, created personas, and modified the product to appeal to those segments by certifing the product as organic. Brilliant.

Brilliant pancakes, too. Both my kids gave it a thumbs up.

Review of Aretha Frankensteins’ Pancake Mix

So, there’s this breakfast joint in Chattanooga, TN called Aretha Frankensteins, and they claim on pancakes. My kind of place. I got a box of their mix, and brought it back home to make them—with nothing but excitement building in my soul.

This batch was a little thin, I think it was mixed that way, but I didn’t have buttermilk handy, and used what I had—a mark of a true professional.

I threw some pecans in them, and with those that the pancakes had a really good taste & texture.

If you can’t get to Chattanooga to buy some, you can find the pancake mix at their online store. It’s $25 for 3 boxes, or if you eat pancakes like me, a case of 12 boxes are $73. You’ll just need a good source for maple syrup.

Pizza Roma on Bardstown Road in Louisville

Pizza Roma has been open for about a month, and I went with my two sons. They feel it’s a middle of the road pizza, and the best part of the meal was the Dirty Bread (a grab bag pizza on french bread). “All the toppings fall of when you pick a slice up,” said Eli.

“It’s Okay, it tastes really good, but the bond between the dough and the things on top aren’t very strong,” said Chris.

When asked is they had $20 to buy a pizza, would you go there, both kids said no.

La Rosita Mexican Grill: Mexican in New Albany

$20 worth of food on a Monday night after the YMCA. La Rosita is the best tacos in the area, far better than Taco Tico. In fact, I would say that if Taco Tico is even acceptable to you, you aren’t in the league for La Rosita. The salsas are really good, and are the reason for the chips. The guacamole tasted like it was freshly made, even at the end of the day.
