Eiko & Koma and Kronos Quartet: Fragile

I once described Kronos Quartet as the one music that I could be on a desert island with, and not go insane. They are versatile, and miraculous. Since they are the artist in residence at Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, I’m expecting to get a lot of them in the near future.

The day after attending, I still remember the nuances of the performance. Now that consider, the nuances were the highlights.  I sat on the floor, on a pillow, ten feet in front of Eiko & Koma, and behind them sat Kronos Quartet. It was amazing to be so close, so intimate. Eiko & Koma’s eyes slowly opening, and looking directly at me, reminding me of the fragile, and how lifeless we can become.

It was a real treat getting to hear them. They didn’t bring their drums to the instore, something about the economy and having to sell them to buy some presents and the drums are at Doo Wop.

The Brown Jazz Ensemble played today at a Brown School Basket Ball game, and it was a real treat getting to hear them.

“RELIC includes Chuck Sharp singing lead and harmony vocals and playing guitar; Adam Bibelhauser singing lead and harmony vocals and thumpin’ on the bass; Dave Howard on lead and harmony vocals as well as mandolin; and Aaron Bibelhauser on lead and harmony vocals and 5 string banjo.”

It was amazing to see three women on banjo, something I’ve only dreamed of until then. They origanlly performed as Maiden Kentucky, but refined their name.

Maiden Radio is: Cheyenne Mize-fiddle, vox, ; Julia Purcell-guitar, vox ; Joanie Musslemam-banjo, vox

and they performed ”Shout Little Lou Lou”

at the MERF fest’s Viva La Diva fund raiser at Jim Porter’s and recorded via iPhone.

The fries are seasoned with cinnamon and sugar and make a great dessert to share.

The grits were exceptional, and were full of garlic goodness.

On Wednesday nights there’s a jam session going strong at 9 pm (photo and audio).
